Gentai was adopted by his teacher Sōsui Watanabe and practiced the Chinese nanga style of painting. Gentai is perhaps best known for being the teacher of the great nanga painter Bunchō Tani. This gallery shows sixteen of Gentai’s flower and (or) bird paintings. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Gentai also authored a picture book with some of his art.
